The school-hours income calculator

You have a set number of hours between drop-off and pickup. This works out what those hours are worth, at real market rates, with the slow start built in. Three questions, no signup, honest numbers at the end.

Step 1

How many school hours can you work each week?

Count the hours that are already free. Not the ones you hope to find.

Step 2

What could you start with today?

Pick what you can already do, not what you would like to learn.

Step 3

What do you need to close each month?

Optional. The number you are short after the bills are paid.

Why the numbers look like that

Most income calculators multiply your hours by a dream rate and hand you a number you will never see. This one does two things differently.

It uses posted market rates, not top-of-market rates. The starting band is what people with no portfolio are paid in 2026. The established band is what the same work pays once you have references and can turn down the bad jobs.

It assumes you will not bill every hour. In the first three months you spend a lot of your working time finding the work, so the month 3 figure bills 45 percent of your available hours. By month 12 that rises to 75 percent. Nobody bills 100 percent, and any tool that tells you otherwise is selling something.

The result is a range you can plan around. Put it next to your real monthly gap and you have a decision, not a daydream.
